This 2-year-old, 60 lb shepherd mix is the full package—and he’s ready to find his forever home! He is currently located at Fort Worth Animal Care & Control.

Donnie came to the adoption event last weekend and proved he’s kid-friendly, dog-friendly, and Stockyards-approved. He even spent a little time in a foster home and passed with flying colors—100% good boy energy.

Another great day at the stockyards! Three dogs from Fort Worth Animal Care & Control found their forever homes on site, and a fourth should be adopted any minute after a family who met him got home and decided to turn back around and adopt him tonight. All adoptions are special, but we were all cheering for Yuri, the little black pitbull, who finally found her family after a year in foster. In addition, we got several promising leads for other pups and spoke to a lot of people about fostering and volunteering. Thanks again to @stockyardsstationevents for having us out!

We need your help to find one of our favorite dogs from Fort Worth Animal Care & Control a forever home. Dede is kid-friendly, dog-friendly, and the snuggliest snuggler around! She plays great with her foster brother and loves making new friends. On walks, she’s a perfect angel and barely pulls. She is a regular at our adoption events and is always the perfect lady.

She’s independent by day, cuddle bug by night. At nap time or bedtime, she just wants to be touching her people—no pets required (though she loves them!).

She’s a fan of water, walks, meeting people, and ICE CUBES. 🧊

In the shelter since July, in foster since September—ready for her forever home! 🏡

The shelter has seen a big influx of animals this summer, and they urgently need adopters. Now’s the time to step up, show up, and help them clear the kennels.

Staff at FWACC has asked us to help share some of the amazing dogs looking for temporary foster homes. There are several transport dogs who are ready and waiting to leave the shelter but just need a place to crash for a few weeks before their journey. We had a great day at the stockyards! Five lucky dogs, including a senior bonded pair, were adopted! The family who adopted them recently lost their American Bulldog so couldn’t believe their luck when they found two amazing ones to call their own! At only eight months old, Elke has quickly stolen the hearts of staff, volunteers, and everyone she meets. She’s wonderful with other dogs, great with kids, and has a sweet, easygoing personality. All she needs is a cozy place to crash for a few weeks—the shelter provides everything you’ll need. Let’s help this amazing girl finish her journey home!

Mr. Bill is out of time. He’s been patiently waiting 71 days at Fort Worth Animal Care & Control hoping someone will notice him.

The shelter is overcapacity—he’s on the urgent list simply because there isn’t enough space. This 9-year-old, 60 lb, neutered sweetheart is everything people say they want in a dog: calm, loving, easy going, loyal. He’s heartworm positive, but treatment is available for free through the shelter and not contagious to other animals.

Found as a stray in April, Mr. Bill recently went on a sleepover with a foster and proved he’s the total package. He loved his pup cup, walked great on leash, enjoyed a nap, and was a perfect gentleman with kids, cats, and other dogs. He’s cuddly, quiet, food motivated, enjoys car rides and water, and just wants to be near his person. This boy doesn’t need much- just a place to call home.

Fort Worth Animal Care & Control needs your help!

If you have considered providing foster care for a kitten or cat and would like additional information, please email FWACCfoster@fortworthtexas.gov. The shelter is currently experiencing an influx of kittens, making this an ideal time to participate in their foster program. Help save a life (or two)!

Meet Denny! 🐾 This perfect pup is URGENT and needs a hero—he’s been in the shelter 120 days. Thankfully, a volunteer gave him a weekend sleepover, and they were blown away that no one has adopted him yet.

They said: “He’s the sweetest little guy. Listed as 3 years old, but we think he’s closer to 1.5. Still has puppy energy but calmed quickly indoors.”

Denny got along great with our resident dog—even when that dog kept stealing toys out of Denny’s mouth- Denny was patient and easygoing like an absolute angel. Once the excitement wore off, he became a sleepy cuddle bug and shadowed us all weekend, giving nonstop kisses.

He’s potty trained, treat motivated, and though he knows just a few commands, he’s very smart. He learned two new ones in under an hour and clearly enjoyed it!

An incredible, dedicated volunteer asked us to share this deserving boy!

She says: I am heartbroken to share that Batman, a sweet and loving shepherd mix who has been at the shelter since January, is out of time at Fort Worth Animal Care & Control. Due to overcrowding, he must be tagged by 5 PM on Sunday, June 8, 2025, and picked up by 5 PM on Monday to avoid euthanasia.

Batman is around 55 lbs and full of love. He’s calm, affectionate, and thrives on human interaction. He’s kennel-trained, great on a leash, and has done wonderfully at adoption events with lots of other dogs and in public settings. He’s friendly with people, gentle in play, and just wants to feel safe and loved.

Like so many black dogs in shelters, Batman has been overlooked again and again. But he’s special. He’s the kind of dog who sticks with you — one you never forget.

Please help us find him a foster, adopter, or rescue before it’s too late. He deserves a chance at the life he’s patiently waiting for.

Meet Wren (ID 58063869) — a 7-year-old, 75-pound German Shepherd with a gentle soul and loving personality.

Wren is well-mannered, knows how to sit and shake, and likely has a few more tricks up her paw. She appears to be house-trained and gets along well with other dogs, enjoying time in the play yards with her canine companions.

She’s already been spayed and has had a mammary tumor removed. Wren is heartworm positive, but treatment is available for free through the shelter and not contagious to other animals.

Puppy breath alert!

Seven adorable 2.5-month-old puppies are ready to find their forever families! Their mama was only 26 pounds, so these pups will likely stay on the smaller side. They were raised in a loving foster home where they’ve been socialized with both dogs and kids—and now they’re fully vaccinated and ready to go!

Who needs some good news?! Link and Kyra came to the shelter together in early February and were running out of time. They had previously been listed as bonded, but a decision was made recently that they could be split up in an effort to get them adopted. Well, today they were adopted today by members of an extended family! Link was the first to steal the hearts of his family but when they found out Kyra would be left behind, grandma decided Kyra would be going home with her. Now, Link and Kyra can live out their retirement years with this amazing family who has three generations of love to give. Be good, sweet pups!

Meet Ruka! (ID: 57821678)
Ruka is an affectionate, goofy, people-loving Husky mix who’s ready to find his forever home! He’s about 2 years old, around 80 pounds, and full of love and personality. He is HW+ but is beginning treatment soon.

Ruka is dog, cat (dog-savvy ones), and human friendly, and has done amazing at adoption events — even with kids! That said, he's a big boy who loves giving hugs, so probably best in a home without small children.

This handsome guy isn’t fazed by storms, loud noises, or new things in his environment. He’s smart, funny, and knows cues like “sit,” “down,” “wait to eat,” and “go to your bed". Ruka walks well on a leash and isn’t a big barker — though he’ll chat and howl when he’s excited!

Important quirk alert: Ruka HATES crates and does best when not contained in one. When left free during the day he’s been a perfect gentleman.

You can tell Ruka’s had a rough past, but he’s incredibly resilient and still full of joy. His current foster reports that he is "100% a snuggle monster who just wants to be your adventure buddy and couch pal."

Ruka would thrive in an active home that is is ready for a loyal, hilarious, and loving companion.

Last week, we had the chance to celebrate the Fort Worth Animal Care & Control staff with an Olive Garden lunch at all shelter locations and in addition breakfast at the PetSmart adoption centers. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve also been able to keep the animals busy with new enrichment items while the shelter was closed, making sure they stay happy and mentally engaged.

For the month of April, we’ve contributed to enrichment supplies and the foster supply closet with your North Texas Giving Day donations, and purchased supplies and raffle prizes for the recent Kitten Shower.

Because of the community’s ongoing support, we’re able to say YES to shelter staff requests without needing to pause and fundraise each time. We truly couldn’t do this without you — thank you for standing with us and the animals who need us most.

We love happy updates on some of our favorite dogs!

In December 2024, we met Paisley at Fort Worth Animal Care & Control when she starred in a video about dogs selecting their Christmas presents. Her exuberance and zest for life (and toys) won our hearts (as well as many of yours) so we were certain she would be adopted in no time. Sadly, this sweet girl was passed over for months. However, we got news a few days ago that after spending some time at the Petsmart adoption location that Paisley has found her forever home! Based on her adoption and freedom ride photos, we can tell there are a lot of snuggles and a ton of love in her future. Thank you to her new dad for recognizing what a special spirit she is. Be good, sweet Paisley!

Even though Fort Worth Animal Care & Control remains closed to the public, the staff continues to work tirelessly to care for the animals in need. These are challenging times, and we want to take a moment to recognize their unwavering dedication, compassion, and commitment. To show our appreciation, we provided a catered breakfast for both the North and South campuses, ensuring the team knows how valued they are.

Next week, we’ll extend our gratitude to the field staff with a special breakfast as well. Their hard work does not go unnoticed, and we remain committed to supporting the shelter in any way we can during this difficult time. Thank you to all the staff members who continue to make a difference for these animals every day!

Due to the wear and tear from nearly 20,000 animals that come through FWACC each year, we need to occasionally replace parts of the beds to ensure each dog has a comfortable place to sleep.
