North Texas Giving Day is an annual event that unites communities across the region in support of nonprofit organizations dedicated to making a positive impact. For the second year in a row, we're proud to raise funds to support the Shelter Enrichment Program at FWACC (Fort Worth Animal Care & Control).
Shelter enrichment is a fundamental aspect of an animal's experience in the shelter environment, especially in busy facilities like FWACC. It recognizes that physical comfort and mental stimulation are as vital as food and shelter. By supporting this initiative on North Texas Giving Day 2024, donors will play an instrumental role in ensuring that Cowtown Friends can continue to help FWACC engage in this vital program. The result will be happier, healthier animals who are more likely to find their forever homes, reflecting a community that cares deeply about the welfare of its furry friends.
Your generous donations will ensure that the Shelter Enrichment Program at FWACC remains well-stocked with essential items. These items include KONGs, Benebones, dog treats, treat-dispensing toys, catnip, cat toys, out-and-about bandanas and leashes, and any additional supplies requested by shelter staff. By supporting this initiative on North Texas Giving Day 2024, you'll play a pivotal role in enabling Cowtown Friends to continue their vital work in partnership with FWACC.
Benefits of Shelter Enrichment:
Reduced Stress: Enrichment activities engage animals in natural behaviors and problem-solving, helping to alleviate the stress of being in a shelter environment.
Improved Well-Being: Shelter enrichment contributes to both the physical and mental well-being of shelter animals. It provides them with a sense of normalcy and comfort during their stay.
Increased Adoptability: Enrichment programs help reduce undesirable behaviors in shelter animals, making them more appealing to potential adopters. Animals that are happy and content are more likely to find their forever homes.
Thanks to your generous donations last year, we have been able to supply $2,500 of standing orders each month for foster closets and enrichment programs at both the North and South shelter locations. We also made bulk orders of $10,000 for martingale collars and leashes, and $2,000 for 420 Benebones to restock in December. These supplies are crucial to the well-being of the animals in our care, ensuring they have the necessary items for comfort and enrichment.
As shelter intake rates reach an all-time high, it becomes even more crucial to keep the enrichment supplies stocked. The most recent monthly report showed a total of 587 animals in foster care, with 246 entering foster care just in July. Enrichment activities, such as frisbees, kongs, nylabones, peanut butter, and treats, are essential for keeping the animals’ minds stimulated and their spirits high. These simple yet powerful tools provide comfort and joy, helping to alleviate the stress and anxiety that can come from shelter life.
The Shelter Enrichment Program at FWACC represents a holistic approach to animal welfare, made possible by your generous donations in previous years. We hope to continue supporting this vital program next year and beyond. As we celebrate North Texas Giving Day 2024, let's come together as a community that cares deeply about the welfare of our furry friends. Your support makes a tangible difference in the lives of shelter animals, enhancing their well-being and increasing their chances of finding loving homes.
